The wood grain elements in the series are derived from the traditional Chinese instrument he plays, the pipa. This instrument was once regarded as a symbol for courtesans to please wealthy guests. However, this teacher redefined the meaning of the pipa with his outstanding skills. Through music, he strives to break this prejudice, blur the class boundaries of music appreciation, and enable everyone to find resonance and a sense of belonging in music.
The weaving fabric for the plant fiber series products draws its inspiration from the waste materials left behind by farmers after their farming activities, such as corn stalks, that he witnessed while playing in the countryside. The use of this material not only demonstrates respect for natural resources but also conveys respect for the land and the laborers, emphasizing the harmonious relationship between humans and nature. These corn stalks, which should have been burned, have transformed into sustainable materials, reflecting Maggie Wang’s commitment to promoting sustainable fashion.
The sheepskin moulding jackets and dresses in the series symbolize his “shell” under the constraints of patriarchal ideology. He is both a “beneficiary” and a “victim” of male bias. In this complex identity, he is like an explorer, facing criticism and pressure from society.
